WASHINGTON: America has expelled two Russian embassy officers after Russia earlier expelled two US diplomats from the American embassy in Moscow, the US State Division stated on Friday (Oct 6).
“In response to the Russian Federation’s specious expulsion of two US Embassy Moscow diplomats, the State Division reciprocated by declaring persona non grata two Russian Embassy officers working in america,” a State Division spokesman stated.
“The Division is not going to tolerate the Russian authorities’s sample of harassment of our diplomats,” the spokesman stated, including that “unacceptable actions towards our Embassy personnel in Moscow may have penalties.”
Russia’s RIA information company quoted an unnamed supply within the Russian international ministry as confirming the expulsion, calling t groundless and saying Washington had used Moscow’s Sep 14 expulsion of two US diplomats “caught red-handed partaking in spying actions” as a pretext.
“We aren’t involved in escalation, but when such hostile actions proceed, as all the time, we’ll reply firmly and decisively,” RIA quoted the supply as saying.
Russia stated on Sept. 14 that it was expelling two US diplomats whom it accused of working with a Russian nationwide charged with collaborating with a international state.
